在故宫中，故宫铜缸，大殿前、庭院中都有摆放铜大缸，这些故宫铜大缸是雕塑工艺中的一种铸铜雕塑，腹宽口收，容量极大，而且装饰精美，两耳处加饰有兽面铜环，?据说，这些铜大缸雕塑最初是用来防火的，因故宫中的主要建筑材质以木质为主，很易引起火灾，而在通常在门口的铜大缸中注满水，以备不时之需。但是这些铜大缸实际存在的意义不仅局限于消防，同时还是宫内大殿等的陈列品，这些吉祥铜大缸雕塑在材质上多选用优质青铜而铸，以鎏金铜大缸等级最高，也最显豪华高贵，而一些后宫及长街，则摆设一些小铜缸或铁缸。
