缸，清代又叫“门海”，以比喻缸中水似海可以扑灭火灾，有名吉祥缸。平常要注意防御一些外界的有害化学物质，例如：酸类、氯化物等，还有就是在移动铜大缸的时候一定要戴棉手套，不可让手直接接触铜大缸，防止手上的汗液腐蚀。故宫中的吉祥缸腹大口收，两耳处有兽面铜环，显得厚重壮观，具有装饰性。其按材质分，吉祥缸可分为铁缸、铜缸和镏金铜缸三类，其中镏金铜缸是等级高的吉祥缸，常陈设在太和殿、保和殿两侧，以及乾清门外红墙两侧等重要的大殿或城门处。此外，故宫中的铁缸是明代铸造的，铜缸在明清两代都有铸造，而镏金铜缸则均为清代铸造。
